Can't change which calendar an event is on

Applies to: iOS, iPadOS, macOSUpdated August 2026

Applies to: Timepage on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

If changing which calendar an event belongs to fails, first update to iOS 18.5 — Apple shipped a bug in 18.4 that blocked this. If the move still fails afterwards, the event most likely repeats or has attendees, which the calendar service itself refuses to move; recreate or duplicate it using the steps below.

Update to iOS 18.5

In iOS 18.4, Apple introduced a bug that affected editing calendar events in Timepage, particularly when changing which calendar an event is saved to (for example, from iCloud to Google, or between Google accounts). Apple fixed this in iOS 18.5. Update your devices to 18.5 or later, and make sure Timepage has the most recent update from the App Store — that resolves it in most cases.

“Failed to change calendar” for recurring events or events with attendees

Even under normal conditions, moving an event between calendar services (iCloud, Google, Exchange) can fail when:

  • the event is recurring, or
  • the event includes attendees.

These are limitations imposed by the calendar services themselves, not by Timepage, so the app can’t override them. You can still get the event onto the calendar you want with one of the workarounds below.

Workaround

There are two ways around this. The first is to recreate the event on the calendar you want:

  1. Create a new event on the correct calendar.
  2. Re-add any recurrence rules or attendees.
  3. Delete the original event from the old calendar.

Alternatively, duplicate the original event — duplicating drops the attendees and repeats, which is what lets it move:

  1. Long-press the event on the Day screen and choose Duplicate. This creates a copy without attendees or repeats.
  2. In the duplicate, choose the destination calendar, then add back any repeats or attendees you need.
  3. Delete the original event if you no longer need it.
